The Roman Empire’s Secret Weapon Was Whistling Ammo

(via Popular Mechanics) A team of archaeologists, bolstered by a helpful fisherman, have discovered a previously unknown psychological tactic employed by the Roman army: whistling slingshot bullets. The bullets were used approximately 1,800 years ago and were discovered at Burnswark Hill in southwestern Scotland.  They were designed to create a horrifying sound in battle as they are tossed over the enemy’s head.
