How America Got its Time Zones

(via Jstor.com)  In Boston, the winter brings sunsets as early as 4 pm, irritating residents who barely see the sun except through their office windows for a significant part of the year. Now, the city is considering becoming the first place in the U.S. to switch to the Atlantic Time Zone.  But where did the U.S. time zones come from?
