The Weird Economics of the Traffic Jam

(via Popular Mechanics)  In 2008, researchers in Japan were finally able to capture a phenomena all too frequent, but rarely understood: they captured a phantom traffic jam on camera. Yes, the kind that happens every day in every highway in every major city in America, nay, the world—the kind where cars slow down, come nearly to a complete halt, then get back up to speed, with no reason or explanation given.
