Apollo 1: Pure oxygen, a single spark, and death in 17 seconds

(via Ars Technica)  50 years ago this week, on January 27, 1967, tragedy struck the Apollo Lunar program program when a flash fire occurred during a launch pad test of the command module.  Three astronauts: Lt. Col. Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom,  Lt. Col. Edward H. White and Roger B. Chaffee, died in this accident.  Ars Technica talks some of the people who were there… the accident still haunts some of them to this day.
