Baseball’s first stolen base exploited a loophole in the rulebook

(via SB Nation)  Before the National League and the American League came together to form the MLB, baseball had some growing pains. One of which included an old rulebook that never thought to include rules about stealing bases. This made the first stolen base a bit awkward, as no one knew what to do.
