Canary Girls: The World War One Women Who Turned Yellow

(via Amusing Planet) The role women played in the two World Wars is well known and well appreciated. As men went off to fight the war, positions previously held by men in factories and other services were quickly filled by women.  One vital role women played was ensuring that the soldiers in the front line had adequate ammunition.  While women who worked the assembly lines were spared the horrors of the trenches, their jobs were no less dangerous.
