100 Years Later: 50 Facts About Prohibition

(via Mental Floss) For 13 years, the United States had a constitutional ban on booze. By 1920, the chorus of citizens who didn’t want the “corrupting” effects of alcohol ruining society had grown loud enough that the government acted to shut down booze-based business—and on January 17, 1920, Prohibition in the U.S. officially went into effect. The 18th Amendment to the Constitution prohibited the “manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors.” Here are 50 not-at-all-dry facts about Prohibition.
