Opening ceremony of the 24th Empire State Games, July 25, 2001 at RFA Stadium. The event featured a performance by rock band Collective Soul, a flyover by the State Air National Guard’s 174th Fighter Squadron, the lighting of the torch and fireworks to conclude the festivities. The games were held in various venues throughout the Mohawk Valley from July 26-29, 2001.
RFA vs. UFA Football – September 19, 1980. “We didn’t play very well in the third quarter, we didn’t block and we just didn’t do things right,” Coach Tom Hoke said after his Rome Free Academy Black Knights topped Utica Free Academy, 28-0, at RFA Stadium Friday night. “But maybe that was because we were up by 21 points, I thought we played well in the other three quarters, offensively, and the defense played well the whole game.”
