RETRO ROME – Vice president George H.W. Bush (far left) arrives aboard Air Force II at the Oneida County Airport – July 29, 1985. Rep. Sherwood L. Boehlert, R-25 New Hartford (next to Bush) invited the vice president to watch the Hall of Fame baseball game in Cooperstown that day. Rome Mayor Carl J. Eilenberg (red tie next to Boehlert) and Utica Mayor Louis LaPolla (behind Boehlert) were among those to greet Bush. The vice president also attended a Republican fund-raiser at Hart’s Hill Inn in Whitesboro that night.
