Rome native Archi Cianfrocco playing in Baseball HOF game, Cooperstown – August 4, 1997
RETRO ROME – August 4, 1997 – Hundreds of friends and family members attended the National Baseball Hall of Fame Game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY to watch Rome native Archi Cianfrocco in action for the San Diego Padres against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cianfrocco, who won the home run derby earlier in the day, played five positions over the course of the game: second base, first base, shortstop, right field and catcher.
Blizzard of ’93 – March 13, 1993
March 13, 1993. Rome residents trudge through the snow with their dog, who doesn’t seem to mind the snow one bit. The Blizzard of ’93 dumped 18 inches of snow on the area on the weekend – only a week short of the first day of spring.
