RETRO ROME – Direct from the Daily Sentinel pages. The blizzard of Jan. 27 – Feb. 2, 1966 closed Rome schools for a week, thousands were stranded along the NYS Thruway… some 50 inches of snow fell on Rome during a five day period.

RETRO ROME – From the Daily Sentinel pages – February 3, 1966. City of Rome and Oneida county plowing crews worked without sleep to open essential arteries of transportation. The “white out” smothered the northeast. The blizzard and extreme cold contributed to at least 75 deaths from highway accidents, fires and heart attacks in 16 states.
